FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's basketball team used 21 points from sophomore guard Alexis Cheatham (Lockport, N.Y. / Lockport) and a double-double from junior Sabrina Macaulay (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) -- 15 points and 11 rebounds -- to down the visiting Plattsburgh Cardinals, 63-51, on Friday.

Freshman Jacque Law (Macias, N.Y. / Pioneer) added 11 points -- eight coming from the free-throw line -- and eight rebounds. Sophomore Kathryn Halloran (Angola, N.Y. / Immaculata) added eight points.

Plattsburgh controlled the tempo early, jumping out to a 10-2 lead. The Devils would inch closer, eventually knotting the game at 24-all following a layup by Cheatham at the 3:29 mark. Plattsburgh took a 28-26 lead into the locker room.

Two-and-a-half minutes into the second half, the Devils would gain their first lead of the game after a layup by Macaulay made it 35-33.

Up 46-44 with 7:47 to play, the Devils would take control of the game going on a 16-4 run, including the final nine points, to take a 63-48 lead with just over a minute to play. The Devil defense held Plattsburgh scoreless for nine-straight possessions to finish out that run.

Plattsburgh (5-5, 2-1 SUNYAC) was led by Devona Paul with 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Devils held a 52-42 rebounding edge. Despite shooting only 31 percent (20 of 65) from the field, the Devils made six of 11 three pointers and 17 of 26 free-throw attempts. Plattsburgh also shot 31 percent from the field, and had four long-range buckets and went 11 of 17 from the line.

Fredonia (4-6. 1-3 SUNYAC) is scheduled to take on Potsdam Saturday at 4:00 in Steele Hall.
