OSWEGO, N.Y. -- A power-play goal by
Marcus Ortiz (Richardson, Texas) with just over three minutes left kept Fredonia from being shut out Saturday in SUNYAC men's hockey at Oswego.
Ortiz was stationed in front of the net when a puck shot from the left point deflected off him and past Oswego goaltender Matt Zawadzki at 16:41 of the third period. It was Ortiz's fourth goal of the season.
Oskar Gerhardson (Haessleholm, Sweden) and
Ryan Wilkinson (Calgary, Alberta) were credited with assists.
Chris Raguseo had two goals and one assist to lead the Lakers, who improved to 12-2-3 overall and 7-1-1 in the SUNYAC. They are ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division III by USCHO.com. Zawadzki finished with 29 saves, 13 of them in the first period.
Six other players had one goal each for Oswego, who five times off Blue Devil starting goaltender
Jeff Flagler (Owen Sound, Ont.) and twice off
Christopher Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass.), who played the entire third period. Flagler finished with 19 saves, Eiserman with eight.
The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 4-8-5 overall and 0-5-3 in the SUNYAC. They travel to Morrisville State for conference games next Friday and Saturday.
