BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Brockport overtook Fredonia early in the first half Saturday to down the Blue Devils, 74-61, in SUNYAC women's basketball.
Alexis Cheatham (Lockport, N.Y.) had 16 points while
Sabrina Macaulay (Newark, N.Y.) added 14 and
Jacque Law (Machias, N.Y.) 13 for the Blue Devils, who fell to 2-5 in the SUNYAC and 5-8 overall.
Olivia Suhr led the Golden Eagles with 20 points while Hannah Rehbaum had 18. It was the first SUNYAC win of the season for Brockport. The Golden Eagles are 1-5 in the conference, 3-10 overall.
Fredonia went into haftime with a 35-32 lead on the strength of solid outside shooting. Cheatham was 3 of 5 and Law 2 of 2 from beyond the arc. The Blue Devils also shot 51.2 percent overall from the field in the first half and had a 20-14 rebounding margin.
The second half was a different story. A basket by
Kathryn Halloran (Angola, N.Y.) gave Fredonia the lead 38-37 for the final time. Brockport took command with an 11-0 run, including bookend baskets by Marissa Pike -- a three-pointer to start the run and a layup to end it.Â
The Blue Devils were just 2 of 7 from beyond the arc and 9 of 27 from the field in the second half. Meanwhile, Brockport knocked down 17 of 29 shots in the second half.
Fredonia returns to SUNYAC competition when it plays host to Buffalo State at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
