BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Ryan Keller (East Aurora, N.Y.) took a short pass and split defenders to score the winning goal in the 62nd minute of Fredonia's 2-1 Blue Devil Clarion Hotel Classic win Saturday over Houghton in men's soccer.

After receiving a short lateral ball from Mike Biggane (Amherst, N.Y.) while streaking up the center field, Keller burst through a small opening and put a sliding shot past Houghton goalkeeper Jacob Dunnett.

Fredonia goalkeeper Sammy Torrelli (Akron, N.Y.) made a diving save off a free kick late in the game to help preserve the Blue Devil lead. He finished with five saves.

Ryan Ross (Grand Island, N.Y.) scored Fredonia's earlier goal, while Landon Sheaffer scored for the Highlanders. The goal by Ross in the 49th minute came after a Blue Devil throw-in. Sheaffer countered with a header following a Houghton free kick in the 57th minute.

Fredonia improved to 3-1-0 this season and finished second to the Mount St. Mary Knights in the Classic. The Knights earned the title with a 3-2 win over Buffalo State earlier Saturday, coupled with a weather-shortened 1-0 victory over the Blue Devils on Friday.

Ivan Dorador of Mount St. Mary was named tournament MVP and three of his teammates made the all-tournament team. Keller, Biggane, and Keith Braun (Wales, N.Y.) were Fredonia's all-tournament selections.
