BOXSCORE 2 ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Fredonia women's volleyball split a pair of matches Friday at the Golden Flyer Invitational, topping Hartwick, 3-0, in the opener before falling to Nazareth, 3-0.
Against Hartwick the Blue Devils controlled the match from start to finish with aggressive serving and hitting.
Lauren Hokaj (Lancaster, N.Y.) had a strong match from behind the serving line with six aces. The entire roster was worked into the rotation, finishing with an impressive team hitting percentage of .348.
Jessica DiChristopher (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) had seven kills and a .462 hitting percentage. Final set scores were 25-10, 25-12, and 25-20.
Against Nazareth, the Blue Devils were unable to stop several strong Nazareth hitters, dropping the match with set scores of 21-25, 21-25, and 20-25. With too many errors in blocking and serve receive, the Blue Devils weren't able to recover from early deficits in each set. DiChristopher had eight kills for over a .500 hitting percentage.
Sara Madison (Rochester, N.Y.) also hit well, finishing with nine kills.
The team returns to the court tomorrow to finish the tournament at noon against Lycoming and at 4 p.m. against Hilbert.
