BOXSCORE GENESEO, N.Y. – Second-half goals by Kristie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) and Alexis Moreland (Newfane, N.Y./Newfane) carried Fredonia past Geneseo, 2-1, in a SUNYAC women's soccer opener Friday afternoon.

With the Blue Devils trailing 1-0, Kleine evened the score with her team-high fourth goal of the season in the 62nd minute. Moreland broke the 1-1 tie three minutes later on a set up by Ally Tatro (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport). It was Moreland's third goal of the season and her first game-winner.

Fredonia goalkeeper Lindsey Forness (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone) was credited with 17 saves – a season-high. The lone Geneseo goal was scored by Emily Green, a header into the top right of the goal off a corner kick by Stephanie Clookey, at 34:28.

The score stayed 1-0 until Kleine's goal at 61:18. Kleine volleyed a bouncing ball into the far upper right corner of the net. "It was," head coach Chris Case said, "one of the nicest goal I've ever seen."

Moreland's goal was also artistic. The game-winning play began with a free kick into the box by Tatro. The ball sailed over the heads of the Geneseo defenders, which allowed Moreland a one-touch into the side corner of the net.

"They were two great goals," said Case, whose team improved to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Blue Devils are back in SUNYAC action 1 p.m. Saturday at Brockport.

Geneseo fell to 6-2-1 with the loss. The Knights are 0-1 in the conference.
