Devils win opener, drop Game 2 at New Paltz

BOXSCORE NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- Fredonia State won the first game of its SUNYAC softball doubleheader Friday at New Paltz, 5-3.

New Paltz gained revenge in the second game with a 10-1 win.

Two-run singles by Kim Lotocki (Soph.; Hamburg, N.Y.) and Cherise Gunnell (Jr.; Falconer, N.Y.) were the keys to the Blue Devil offense in Game 1. Jess Lauck (Jr.; Buffalo, N.Y.) drove in the other run on a fielder's choice and Kate Nicholson (Sr.; Heuvelton, N.Y.) was 3 for 3 with three bunt singles and two runs scored.

Kelsey Gannett (Jr.; Endwell, N.Y.) pitched a complete-game six-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks. She pitched out of a two-out jam with runners on first and second in the seventh inning.

Madeline Medina (Soph.; Hambumg, N.Y.) drove in the only run in Game 2 with a fourth-inning double to score Erin Mushtare (Fr.; Oneonta, N.Y.), who reached on an error.

The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 6-10 in the SUNYAC while New Paltz fell to 7-9. Both teams are fighting for the sixth and final spot into the SUNYAC Tournament.

Fredonia State improved to 9-17 overall.
