BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Brockport scored the first six goals of the second half on its way to a 13-5 SUNYAC women's lacrosse win over Fredonia State in a matchup of nationally ranked teams at University Stadium.
Makensie Schuber and Kelly Wall had four goals each, while Nina Tassone and Hailey Boronczyk had two each for the No. 19 Golden Eagles, who improved to 4-3 in the SUNYAC and 10-4 overall.
Marissa Cussins (Jr.; Corning, N.Y.) had four goals and five draw controls for the No. 20 Blue Devils, who were held to their lowest scoring output of the season. The Blue Devils fell to 11-4 on the year and 5-2 in the conference.
Fredonia State controlled the action in the early going. Goals by Cussins staked her team to a 2-0 lead before Boronczyk scored directly off a Blue Devil turnovers into an empty net with 9:36 left in the first half. That broke the seal on the Brockport offense as Schuber and Wall scored goals in a span of under two minutes for a 3-2 Golden Eagle advantage. The Blue Devils drew even, 3-3, on a goal by
Emily Polizzi (Fr.; Rushville, N.Y.) with :06 seconds left in the first half.
Brockport wasted little time gaining the upper hand in the second half. Alyssa Scordo scored with 28:33 remaining, the start of the decisive 6-0 run. When Cussins finally broke the string, there was just 10:40 remaining and the Blue Devils trailed 9-4.
Brockport goalkeeper Remle Harr was credited with nine saves while two Blue Devil goalkeepers combined to make seven saves.
Fredonia State closes out its regular season 1 p.m. Saturday against Cortland, currently ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III by the IWLCA.
