BOXSCORE 2 FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Joe Korszun threw six strong innings to lead the Fredonia State baseball team to a 7-3 victory in Game 1 of a doubleheader vs. Oswego. The Devils dropped the nightcap, 20-4.
Korszun did not allow a run through six, before tiring in the seventh inning, leaving with the bases loaded and no outs. He scattered three hits and struck out three.
Kyle Grey finished the final inning. All three runs scored were charged to Korszun.
Scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning, the Devils exploded for four runs. Mike Prentice delivered the big blow with a bases loaded double.
Kenny Johnston had an RBI single and
Bobby Frantz capped the rally with a sacrifice fly.
The Devils tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth. Prentice plated two more runs with a two-run single,
Kyle Koslowski drove in the other run with a run-scoring single.
The Devils out hit the Lakers, 14-5.
Conner Lorenzo went four for four with two runs scored. Prentice had three hits and drove in four. Johnston and Koslowski had two hits apiece.
Game 2 was all Oswego. The Devils, playing their fifth game in three days were running low on pitching, and Oswego took advantage. Seven different Blue Devils took the mound, surrendering 18 hits and 11 walks.
Carl Wolf tossed a pair of scoreless innings for the Devils.
Ricky Mendiola had three hits and Lorenzo added another pair of hits to finish with six safeties for the afternoon.
Ryan Carmody had two hits and finished the doubleheader with three hits. As a team, the Devils had 12 hits.
Fredonia State now stands at 9-15, while Oswego moves to 17-8. The Devils are back in action Monday when they travel to Houghton College to finish an early-season game vs. Oneonta. The two teams will then compete in a doubleheader to finish a busy stretch for the Blue Devils that consists of eight games in five days.
