BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 FREDONIA, N.Y. -- A walk-off extra-inning win followed an error-plagued loss Friday as Fredonia State earned a split of its SUNYAC softball home doubleheader with Plattsburgh.

The Cardinals rallied from a six-run deficit for a 10-9 victory in the opener. The Blue Devils emerged in the nightcap for a 2-1 win in eight innings. Both teams came out of the split with 1-3 records in the conference. Fredonia State is 4-9 overall, while Plattsburgh is 3-13.

A pinch-hit single by Izzy Simon (Soph.; Macedon, N.Y.), a sacrifice bunt by Maddy Stavish (Fr.; Olean, N.Y.), and a line-drive double by Kim Lotocki (Soph.; Hamburg, N.Y.) plated the game-winning run in the eighth inning of Game 2. Lotocki's hit, just out of the reach of a diving Plattsburgh outfielder, scored Kate Nicholson (Jr.; Heuvelton, N.Y.), who had re-entered the game following Simon's hit.

Cherise Gunnell (Jr.; Falconer, N.Y.) hit a solo homer to account for the first Fredonia State run in the fourth inning. Plattsburgh took advantage of a Blue Devil error, followed by an RBI double by Kerry McCarty, to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth.

Kelsey Gannett (Endwell, N.Y.) pitched a complete-game five-hitter to improve to 3-4. She also was the Game 1 starter. Morgan Anderson went the distance for Plattsburgh and took the loss.

The teams combined for 31 hits in the first game -- 18 by the Blue Devils -- in a slugfest which went down to the final out. Three Fredonia State errors led to three unearned runs by Plattsburgh, which proved to be a deciding factor in the outcome.

Fredonia State led 8-2 after four innings before Plattsburgh began its comeback. A two-out, two-run double by McCarty capped a four-run seventh inning by the Cardinals. The Blue Devils mounted a two-out rally in the seventh, plating one run, yet left runners stranded on second and third against Plattsburgh's Kristen Fisher, who picked up the win in relief. Gunnell was the losing pitcher in relief of Gannett.

Alyssa Morgan (Soph.; Homer, N.Y.) and Jess Lauck (Jr.; Buffalo, N.Y.) led the Blue Devil offense. Morgan had four hits -- including a double -- and scored four runs, while Lauck had two doubles, a single, and four RBI. Stavish, Gunnell, Erin Mushtare (Fr.; Oneonta, N.Y.), and Lindsey Forness (Soph.; Allegany, N.Y) had two hits each.

Both teams are back in SUNYAC action Saturday with noon doubleheaders -- the Cardinals at Buffalo State, the Blue Devils at home against Potsdam.
