BOXSCORE FORT MYERS, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped a 3-2 game to Plattsburgh at the Gene Cusic Classic on Friday.
Up 2-1, Plattsburgh tied the game on a bases-loaded squeeze play in the sixth inning.
With runners at second and third and the next batter up, Plattsburgh went back to the squeeze. The batter missed the ball, and as the runner was caught running home, slid and stopped, but was never tagged and got up and crossed the plate.
Starting pitcher Tommy Morris (Syosset) went six innings, giving up three runs, only one earned. He gave up five hits, walked one and struck out one.
Kyle Grey (Frewsburg) pitched three innings of scoreless ball to close out the game.
The Devils were limited to four hits in the game.
Ricky Mendiola (Williamsville/Will. South) had a two-run single in the fifth to account for the two Blue Devil runs. The Devils had a chance to adde to the lead, but a line-drive double play ended the inning.
The Devils fall to 5-7, while Plattsburgh ups its record to 6-8.
The Devils wrap up their spring trip Saturday with a 10 a.m. contest vs. Wisconsin-Platteville.
