BOXSCORE OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Fredonia State was defeated Sunday by host Stevenson, 17-8, on the second day of the Mustang Classic.
Three Blue Devils (0-2) were named to the all-tournament team: senior
Katie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y.), her younger sister
Kristie Kleine, and
Emily Polizzi (Rushville, N.Y.).
Kristie Kleine and Polizzi are freshmen.
The Mustangs (1-3) won the opening draw and took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Tori Wagner. The Blue Devils drew even as senior
Katie Kleine scored her first of two goals. The Mustangs scored twice in a span of 18 seconds to take control and led 5-1 before Polizzi stemmed the tide. It was also her first of two goals on the day.
Stevenson went on another 4-0 run en route a 12-3 halftime lead. The Mustangs held two 10-goals leads in the second half. The closest the Blue Devils would come thereafter was down 15-8 with 4:17 left on a goal by junior
Marissa Cussins (Corning, N.Y.), her second of the game.
Katie Glagolev (Webster, N.Y.) also had two goals for the Blue Devils while senior defender
Mary Bruton (Palmyra, N.Y.) collected five groundballs and caused two turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper
Christina Mathewson (Watertown, N.Y.) made nine saves while facing 31 shots.
Kathryn Merrick, Marissa Meiklejohn, and Leah Warner had four goals each for Susquehanna.
