BOXSCORE FT. MYERS, FLA. – The Fredonia State baseball team came up short against Haverford College on Saturday morning falling by a score of 4-3. Pitchers
Thomas Morris (Syosset) and
Joey Tingue (South Dayton/Pine Valley) combined for 13 strikeouts for the Devils.
The Devils had the tying run on in the ninth when
Anthony Schiro (Sanborn/Niagara Wheatfield) ripped a one-out single, but a double play ended their hopes.
Morris got the start on the mound and gave the team a chance to win going six innings giving up three earned runs, striking out nine.
Matt Tobias (Jamestown) tossed 2/3 scoreless, and Tingue finished up the game with 2 1/3 perfect innings with four punchouts.
Tingue entered the game with the bases loaded and two out. He cleaned things up, ending the seventh inning with his first strikeout.
The offense faced off against Haverford's pre-season All-American pitcher Tommy Bergjans and knocked him out after four innings. Bergjans pitch count was over 100.
Scott Schuster (Livonia),
Conner Lorenzo (Rochester/Brighton), and Schiro each had a pair of hits.
Ciro Frontale (Syracuse/Bishop Luddon) and Schiro added an RBI. Schuster scored the third run on an errant throw.
The Devils fall to 2-3 and face off against St. Joeseph's at 4 p.m. followed by McDaniel College at 7 p.m. Sunday evening.
