Katie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y.) had three goals and three assists to support the goalkeeping of freshman
Jessica Zagari (Rochester, N.Y.) as Fredonia State defeated Washington (Md.), 12-8, during SpringFling 2014.
Kleine broke a 6-6 tie with an unassisted goal, the first of a decisive four-goal rally by the Blue Devils (1-2).
Marissa Cussins (Corning, N.Y.), Shelby Depew (Macedon, N.Y.), and
Sam Owen (Horseheads, N.Y.) completed the run. Depew recevied credit for the game-winning goal.
Kristie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y.) also had three goals for the Blue Devils, who led 5-3 at halftime despite being outdrawn 8-1. With her team on defense so often, Zagari was called on to stymie the Washington attack. She finished with 10 saves in her first collegiate appearance.
The Blue Devils won 9 of 12 draws in the second half, including several during their decisive run.
Katie Kleine had a team-high six draw controls while her younger sister, Kristie, was credited with four groundballs.
Kristie Kleine and
Jessica Tuttle (Webster, N.Y.) had two caused turnovers each.
Thursday's game was held at Lake Lytal Park while Friday's game -- at 11:30 a.m. vs. St. Lawrence -- at Seacrest Stadium in Del Ray Beach.
