Devils fall to Susquehanna in opener

BOXSCORE OWING MILLS, MD. -- The Fredonia State lacrosse team fell to Susquehanna University on Saturday, 13-9.

Emily Polizzi (Rushville/Marcus Whitman) had three goals for the Blue Devils and sisters Katie Kleine (Cazenovia) and Kristie Kleine had two scores apiece.

The teams traded goals in the early going. With the score tied 1-all, Fredonia State rattled off five straight scores to take a 6-1 lead. Susquehanna responded scoring three goals over the final eight minutes of the half. The Devils took a 6-4 lead into intermission.

Susquehanna opened the second half scoring seven of the next eight goals to take command of the game.

Emma Ehler had five goals and Michelle McGinness had four scores for Susquehanna.

Christina Mathewson (Watertown) made 13 saves and allowed all 13 goals for the Devils in goal. Abby Cohn made eight saves and allowed nine scores for Susquehanna.

The game was played at Stevenson University. The Devils are back in action tomorrow when they take the host team at 3 p.m.
