NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- The Fredonia volleyball team claimed a 3-1 victory over SUNYAC rival Buffalo State in the semi-finals of the SUNYAC Tournament on Saturday. The win sets up a showdown for the conference title between the Blue Devils and the host Hawks, who defeated Brockport 3-0 on Saturday. The final is set for Noon on Sunday.
The Devils got off to a slow start, dropping the first set, 25-16. From there, they would reel off three straight sets, winning 25-23, 25-16 and 25-23.
The bulk of the offense went through
Jessica DiChristopher (Cheektowaga, N.Y. / West Seneca East) and
Paulina Rein (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / Baldwinsville). The duo collected 21 and 15 kills, respectively.
Kristen Stanek (Hamburg, N.Y. / Orchard Park) and
Sara Madison (Rochester, N.Y. / Penfield) added seven apiece.
Kelly Edinger (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Athena) was credited with 48 assists.
Defensively,
Lauren Hokaj (Lancaster, N.Y. / St. Mary's of Lancaster) had 29 digs and Rein 25. DiChristopher added five blocks.
The Devils (23-10) met New Paltz twice earlier this season, dropping both matches by 3-1 counts.
