BOXSCORE ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- With the Fredonia women's basketball team down just two points, 26-24, at the end of the first half, the Nazareth Golden Flyers outscored the Blue Devils 12-0 to start the second half en route to a 59-43 win.
The Devils started the game strong, holding Nazareth without a field goal in its first 12 attemps. Fredonia would build an 11-2 lead before a three-pointer seven minutes into the game accounted for the Flyers first field goal.Â
Near the end of the first half, the teams were tied 24-all before Nazareth's Kelly Broderick made a layup in the closing seconds to give the hosts the lead for good.
The Golden Flyers came out strong in the second half scoring 12-straight points to build a 38-24 lead. They held the Blue Devils scoreless for the first 5:30 of the half. Â
Sabrina Macaulay (Newrak, N.Y. / Newark) led the Devils with 15 points and seven rebounds. She was seven for eight from the free-throw line.
Alexis Cheatham (Lockport, N.Y. / Lockport) had eight points.
Emily Barrett (Buffalo, N.Y. / Mount Mercy ) grabbed seven rebounds.
The Devils fall to 1-1, while Nazareth improves to 3-0.
The Devils home opener is Tuesday vs. Medaille College at 7 p.m. in Steele Hall.
