Moore's goal gives Devils 4-4 tie with Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Fredonia rallied for a 4-4 SUNYAC men's hockey tie Friday with the Potsdam Bears.

Garrett Moore (Arcade, N.Y.) was credited with his first goal of the season to tie the game and complete the scoring midway through the third period. It was Moore's second goal as a collegian.

Hunter Long (Lebanon, Tenn.), Taylor Bourne (Calgary, Alberta), and Marcus Andersson (Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) had the other Blue Devil goals while goaltender Christopher Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass.) made 41 saves.

It was the third tie of the season for Fredonia, which heads to nationally ranked Plattsburgh with a 1-1-3 record (0-1-2 SUNYAC) for another conference game Saturday night. The tie left Potsdam 2-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the conference.

Goals by Long and Bourne put the Blue Devils on top 2-0. Long's goal, his second of the year, came at 5:40 of the first period shortly after Potdam's Kyle Thacker hit a post. Bourne scored early in a five-minute Blue Devil power play. Assisted by Stephen Castriota (Bellport, N.Y.) and Ryan Wilkinson (Calgary, Alberta), the goal was Bourne's team-leading fourth of the season.

The Bears killed off the rest of the penalty, then took the momentum into the first intermission on a goal by Billy Pascalli with one minute left in the freewheeling period. The teams combined for 37 shots, 23 by Fredonia. Final shots in the game were 48-45 in favor of Fredonia.

The teams scored eight seconds apart early in the second period. Fredonia took a 3-1 lead on Andersson's first collegiate goal. Potsdam won the ensuing faceoff and Joe Gilhooly scored on the initial rush to trim the Fredonia lead to 3-2. It was the first of three unanswered Potsdam goals. Tommy Telesca tied the score at 3-3 before Kenny Simon gave the Bears their first lead, 4-3.

Moore scored the only goal of the third period. He turned and took a seemingly innocent shot from near the blue line which found its way into the net, his fifth of the season, for a 4-4 tie.
