BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Stephen Castriota (Bellport, N.Y.) scored a power-play goal with 47 seconds left Tuesday to lift Fredonia State over Elmira, 5-4, in men's college hockey at Steele Hall.

Stationed in front of the net, Castriota chipped in a rebound after Elmira goaltender Sal Magliocco stopped a shot from the left faceoff circle by Zach White (Taberg, N.Y.).

Magliocco went to the Elmira bench in favor of an extra attacker following the ensuring faceoff. A Fredonia State penalty with 9 seconds left gave the Soaring Eagles a 6-on-4 advantage.

Fredonia State goaltender Jeff Flagler (Owen Sound, Ont.) made a save with 4 seconds left. Following a second faceoff, he made one final save as time expired.

Flagler finished with 48 saves and won his second straight game in net to improve to 2-3-0. The Blue Devils improved to 5-8-3 overall, including 3-0-1 in their last four games.

The Soaring Eagles fell to 9-7-0. They defeated the Blue Devils, 5-0, when the teams met last Nov. 19 in Elmira.

Castriota earned the No. 1 star to cap a milestone day for him. He was named SUNYAC Player of the Week earler in the day and now has points in five straight games, including the winning goal and one assist Tuesday. The goal was his seventh of the season.

Elmira's Josh Burnell had one goal and three assists to earn the No. 2 star. Fredonia State defenseman Jeff Wilkinson (Calgary, Alberta) was chosen as the No. 3 star with three assists.

Jared Wynia (Calgary, Alberta), Alex Perkins (St. Albert, Alberta), Travis Fernley (Calgary, Alberta), and Frankie Hart (Timmins, Ont.) were the other goal scorers for Fredonia State, who were outshot 52-26.

The Blue Devils completed the non-conference portion of their schedule with Tuesday's game. They return to SUNYAC competition with a pair of home games this weekend -- Friday vs. Oswego, Saturday vs. Cortland.
