BOXSCORE BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team's clutch play late in the game gave them a key 68-61 road victory over host SUNY Brockport on Tuesday.
The Devils' final six points came from the free-throw line and they shot 83 percent (15 of 18) for the game, compared to Brockport's three-of-10 shooting from the line.
The Devils improve to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in SUNYAC play. They were led by senior
Becky Hebert (Hilton) with 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocked shots.
Jaimie Warren (Lake View/Frontier) and
Alexis Cheatham (Lockport) had 14 points apiece, with Warren grabbing six boards.
Sabrina Macaulay (Newark) had a game-high 12 rebounds and nine points.
Brockport's biggest lead of the game, 10 points, came with just over 12 minutes to play. Lisa Yacovani nailed a three to give the Eagles a 49-39 lead.
The Devils responded with the next three baskets to cut the lead to four. Hebert converted on a lay up, followed by a pair of
Brittany LaForce (Weedsport) layups.
The Devils gained their first lead of the half, 60-58, with 2:25 left to play following a layup by Hebert. From there, the Devils were able to ice the game from the free-throw line, shooting six of eight over the final 1:35.
Brockport (5-5, 1-2) was paced by freshman Hannah Rehbaum with 13 points and Erin Cunningham's 12 rebounds.
The teams battled to a 31-all tie at the half.
To offset the Devils' big advantage at the free-throw line, the Golden Eagles held a 49-32 edge on the boards. Both teams connected on 40 percent of their shots from the field.
The Devils return home on Saturday to take on Buffalo State in a women's/men's SUNYAC doubleheader. The women tip off at 6 p.m.
