Hebert No. 2 in close NCAA scoring chase

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State senior guard Becky Hebert (Hilton) will take the floor tonight as the No. 2 scorer in NCAA Division III women's basketball.

Hebert is averaging 24.6 points per game, tops in the SUNYAC and second in the nation to Thomas More sophomore Sydney Moss at 24.9 points per game.

Melissa Spahar of John Carrol is third at 24.2, Jasmine Brandon of New Rochelle fourth at 24.1, and Lianna Carrero of Albertus Magnus fifth at 23.8.

The leading scorer in the SUNYAC the past two seasons, Hebert has scored 1,310 career points heading into the Blue Devils' road game 6 p.m. today vs. The College of Brockport. She trails only Cheryl Kindzia on Fredonia State's career points list. Kindzia scored 1.370 points from 2004 to 2008.

The Blue Devils will take a 6-4 record into tonight's game, 1-3 in the SUNYAC with 14 regular-season games remaining.

The Fredonia State and Brockport men will meet in the second half of the conference doubleheader. Scheduled game time is 8 p.m.
