Houghton Claims Classic

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- After playing just over 61 minutes of scoreless soccer, Houghton exploded for four second-half goals in its 4-0 win over Fredonia State in the Clarion Inn Men's Soccer Classic held at Fredonia State.

Paul Seddon scored the Highlander's first goal. Following a shot off the post by teammate Cory Martin, Seddon knocked in the first score from short range.

Houghton's next two scores came off headers .

Landon Shaeffer scored on a pass from Kevin Miranda in the 67th minute. A minute-and-a-half later, Conner Vogan made it 3-0. Cory Brautigam assisted.

Sheaffer added his second goal of the game to give the 4-0 final.

Houghton had a 23-6 advantage in shots and 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Jacob Dunnett was credited with the win in goal, making four saves. For FSU, Michael Schreiner (Spencerport) had nine saves and gave up all four goals in 79 minutes. A.J. Grecco (Buffalo/St. Joe's) played the final 11 minutes, making one save.

Schreiner, Jakob Persons (Albany/Columbia) and Connor Meekins (Bemus Point/Maple Grove) were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Devils.

Fredonia State now stands at 2-2 this season.
