BOXSCORE GENESEO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State suffered its second overtime loss in two days with a 1-0 SUNYAC setback Saturday to the Geneseo Blue Knights.
The Blue Devils (3-7-0 overall, 0-2-0 SUNYAC), trying to bounce back from a 1-0 loss Friday at No. 7 ranked Brockport, held a 2-1 lead on goals by
Luke Tylutki (Pittsford) and
Niall Curran (Yonkers).
Geneseo countered with a goal by Ryan Yurchak, his second of the game, in the 63rd minute, and the game-winner by Pat Lynch seven minutes into overtime.
The Blue Knights improved to 2-0 in the conference and 4-4-1 overall.
"We played with passion all weekend," Fredonia State head coach
P.J. Gondek said. "To get no points in two games is heartbreaking. We have put outselves in position now that only we can get ourselves out of."
Yurchak opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 10th minute to give Geneseo a 1-0 lead.
Tylutki, a senior, scored his second goal of the season at 24:09 on a set up from senior
Chase Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station).
Curran, a freshman, scored his first collegiate goal at 51:15 without the aid of an assist.
Fredonia State junior goalkeeper
Michael Schreiner (Spencerport) was credited with nine saves, while Geneseo's Dan Maddock made three stops. Geneseo had a 28-17 advantage in total shots and an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Fredonia State is back in SUNYAC action when it visits Buffalo State next Friday.
