BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's soccer team tied with SUNYAC opponent Brockport, 1-1, in a double-overtime match.

The first half of play was highlighted by strong defensive play from both teams. The Blue Devils managed four shots to the Golden Eagles none.

Alexis Moreland (Newfane) scored her first collegiate goal to end the shutout in the ninth minute of the second half.

Zanna Barth (Amherst) played a long through ball ahead to Kristie Kleine (Cazenovia), who took a shot from the corner but missed wide. Moreland retrieved the ball on the opposite post and snuck it past the keeper from a wide angle.

The Golden Eagles (5-1-1, 0-0-1) knotted the score at one in the 76th minute when Katie Gildemeyer connected on her fourth goal of the season. She was assisted by Courtney Szczesniak.

The Blue Devils outshot Brockport 8-5 in the second half.

In the first overtime Szczesniak offered the best chance to score for Brockport but was denied by freshman goalkeeper Hannah McGlinchey (Babylon), who finished with three saves.

In the second overtime period, the Blue Devils threatened to score multiple times but could not finish. Moreland had the best chance to score when she dribbled into the box and took an open look but Brockport denied it. A minute later Ally Tatro (Fairport) crossed a pass to Kleine who took the shot but could not connect.

Fredonia State's Kristi Putzig also had one good scoring chance in the first half. Brockport goalkeeper Laura Thompson deflected the high shot just over the top of the net in the first half, one of her six saves in the game. Putzig drilled a shot off the cross bar from inside the 18-yard line midway through the second half.

A series of penalty kicks was held after the second half as a SUNYAC tiebreaker. The Blue Devils held a 2-1 advantage in the PKs.

The Blue Devils (1-4-2, 0-0-1) return to SUNYAC action Saturday when they play host to Geneseo at 1 p.m. Saturday.
