BOXSCORE 2 FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team swept visiting Pitt-Bradford in a double header at Ludwig Field on Saturday. The Devils took game one, 14-5, and held on for an 8-6 victory in game two.
Game one saw the Devils accumulate 11 runs. The big blow came of the bat of sophomore
Ryan Fitzgerald (Rochester/Gates Chili) who connected for a grand slam in the sixth inning to put the game away. Senior
Ian Gallagher (Pittsford/Pittsford Sutherland) also homered. His three-run blast came in the third inning.
Kenny Johnston (Buffalo/Kenmore West),
Jake Nowak (Depew/Maryvale) and
Matt Casilio (Webster/Webster Thomas) each had two hits apiece. Seven walks aided the offensive output.
Senior lefty
Angelo Sciandra (Tonawanda/O'Hara) improved to 3-0 on the mound, going 4 2/3 innings while giving up three hits and three runs.
Evan Carmello (Fredonia) and
Carl Wolf (Hilton) closed out the game.
Thomas Morris (Syossett/Syossett) started the second game on the mound and tossed three scoreless innings, striking out four and not giving up a hit.
Kyle Grey (Frewsburg) tossed two innings and
Zachary Jordon (Akron) picked up his third save of the year going the final two innings, striking out five. The trio combined for 10 strikeouts.
Offensively,
John Bennett (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) was three-for-three, drove in three runs and had a triple. Nowak and Fitzgerald had two hits apiece, and
Brian Sheehan (West Seneca/Orchard Park) had two RBI.
Bradford falls to 6-8.
The Devils improve to 12-4. They travel to Oneonta on Tuesday and Wednesday for a three-game set.
