Devils take pair from Houghton

BOXSCORE WINTER HAVEN, FLA -- The Fredonia State baseball team took a pair of games from Houghton College on Tuesday. The Devils won the first game, 5-4, in walk-off fashion before exploding for 18 hits to take the night cap, 10-4.

In the opener, the game was tied 4-all in the bottom of the seventh. John Bennett (Churchville/Churchville Chili) doubled to lead off the inning. He advanced to third on a groundout by Conner Lorenzo (Rochester/Brighton).

Senior Jake Nowak was sent in to pinch hit and delivered with a line drive single to plate the winning run.

Lorenzo led the Blue Devils with two hits.

Kyle Grey (Frewsburg) threw the final four and a third innings allowing no runs, one hit, and recorded a strikeout to pick up the win.

In game two the Blue Devils used a seven-run fifth to take control of the game. They went into the inning down 3-0. The first seven batters reached base and Bobby Frantz (Webster/Webster Thomas) led the rally with a pair of doubles.

The Devils added three more runs in the sixth to seal the game.

Seven different Devils had two hits. Matt Casilio (Webster/Webster Thomas) led the Devils with two hits, two runs, and two runs batted in.

Zachary Jordon (Akron) got the win with five strong innings of relief. He allowed four hits, one run, no walks, and a strikeout.

Fredonia State improves to 5-3 overall.

Houghton falls to 3-8 overall.

The Blue Devils play tomorrow at noon vs. Thomas (Maine).
