LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Fredonia State completed a three-game sweep of southern California schools with an 11-5 women's lacrosse win Monday night over Occidental at Jack Kemp Stadium.
The Blue Devils (6-0) broke open a 2-2 game with six straight goals -- three in the first half, and three in the second.
Rachael Reinis started the run with 7:59, followed by goals by
Katie Kleine and
Marissa Cussins for a 5-2 halftime lead.
Consecutive goals by
Kaila Fox,
Katie Glagolev, and Cussins pushed the Fredonia State advantage to 8-2 before Occidental ended the six-goal run.
Reinis, Glagolev, and Cussins closed out Fredonia State's scoring.
Cussins led the way with four goals, while Glagolev had three, Reinis two, and Kleine and Fox one each. Glagolev, Fox, and
Erin Edson had one assist each.
Jenna Cuddeback was credited with three ground balls.
Senior goalkeeper
Casey Chiesa attained two career milestones. The win was her 40th as a collegian -- she is the Fredonia State career leader in wins. She is second in career saves with 507, including eight on Monday. Sarah Wright is the career leader with 521.
Next up for the Blue Devils is their first SUNYAC game of the season at Oswego 1 p.m. Saturday.
