BOXSCORE WINTER HAVEN, FLA. -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision to NAIA power Freed-Hardeman on Monday.

The Devils scored a run in the second inning to stake a 1-0 lead before a four-run fourth proved to  be the Devils' undoing.

The Devils' first run came following singles by Brian Sheehan (West Seneca/Orchard Park) and Jake Nowak (Depew/Maryvale). Andrew Lawrence (Clarence) was then hit with a pitch to load the bases. John Bennett (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) ripped a single to right field to plate Sheehan.

Fredonia State starting pitcher Kyle Morse (Jamestown/Southwestern) put in a solid effort allowing a single hit over three innings while striking out four.

Morse was relieved by freshman Carl Wolf (Hilton) who surrendered all four runs in the fourth.

Kyle Grey (Frewsburg), Evan Carmello (Fredonia) and Joseph Tingue (South Dayton/Pine Valley) all pitched effective relief, allowing three unearned runs while striking out three.

The Devils final tallies came in the eighth inning. Kyle Koslowski (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) led off the inning with a double. Sheehan reached on an error to put runners at first and third. Nowak hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score the first run of the inning before Conner Lorenzo (Rochester/Brighton) plated Sheehan when the FHU second baseman booted his ground ball.

Bennett finished the day with three hits. Sheehan, Nowak and Dan Fetes (Webster/Webster-Thomas) each had two hits as the Devils out-hit Freed-Hardeman, 10-7.

FHU improves to 23-3-1 on the season. The Devils now stand at 3-3.

The Devils are back in action Tuesday at 2 p.m. to take on Houghton College in a doubleheader.
