BOXSCORE

LAKE MYRTLE, Fla. – Fredonia State earned the series victory over Plattsburgh with a 3-0 win Saturday. The two teams split a pair of games on Friday.

Senior Zachary Hugg (Waverly) threw a complete game gem to earn the win. Hugg kept Plattsburgh hitters off-balance through nine strong innings. He struck out four batters and allowed six hits while walking one.

Fredonia State generated all of the offense it needed in the second frame when second baseman Conner Lorenzo (Rochester/Brighton) capped off a trio of two-out hits with an RBI single that plated Ian Gallagher (Pittsford/Pittsford Sutherland), making the score 1-0.

Unable to put together any consistent offense against Hugg, the Cardinals put just three runners on the base paths through the first five innings and never put a runner on second base until the bottom of the sixth.

Kenny Johnston (Buffalo/Kenmore West) laced a double to right field to lead off the seventh before coming around to score on an unearned run after a Plattsburgh error.

The Blue Devils plated one final run in the top of the ninth to account for the final margin.

Plattsburgh falls to 1-2 in SUNYAC play and 3-9.

Fredonia State improves to 2-1 in SUNYAC and 3-2 overall.

The Blue Devils return to action Monday vs. NAIA opponent Freed-Hardeman. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at Chain of Lakes park.
