BOXSCORE 2 LAKE MYRTLE, FLA. – Fredonia State split its SUNYAC opener vs. Plattsburgh on Friday. The Blue Devils took the first game, 5-3. The Cardinals won the second game, 3-0.
Sean Larson (Angola/Saint Francis) earned the win in six-and-two-thirds innings. He gave up two runs, one earned, and recorded four strikeouts.
Zachary Jordon (Akron/Akron) earned his second save of the season in as many days after pitching the final two-and-a-third innings.
Offensively,
Ian Gallagher (Pittsford/Pittsford Sutherland) and
Conner Lorenzo (Rochester/Brighton) each had two hits and an RBI.
Plattsburgh scored the first run of the game in the third inning on a walk and back-to-back singles.
Plattsburgh's Kyle Kelly had a perfect game through five innings before
Matt Casilio (Webster/Webster Thomas) led off the sixth with a base hit. He would later come around to score on a base hit by
Bobby Frantz (Webster/Webster Thomas). Frantz came in to score on a double by
Dan Fetes (Webster/Webster Thomas) to make it 2-1 Fredonia State.
The Blue Devils added an unearned run in the seventh. Plattsburgh answered with a two-out, bases-loaded infield error.
In the eighth inning the Blue Devils added two more runs.
Brian Sheehan (West Seneca/Orchard Park) hit a one-out double.
Dillon Lowe (Pittsford/Pittsford Sutherland) walked and
Kenny Johnston (Buffalo/Kenmore West) singled to load the bases. Gallagher and Lorenzo each singled to plate a run.
In game two Plattsburgh's Brian Burns shut out the Devils on six hits.
Fredonia State's
Thomas Morris (Syosset) took the loss in three innings of work, allowing three runs.
Kyle Grey (Frewsburg) threw the final three innings allowing one hit and striking out three.
Offensively, the Devils got two hits from Lowe and Casilio.
Plattsburgh now stands at 1-1 in the SUNYAC and 3-8 overall.
Fredonia State is 1-1 in the SUNYAC and 2-2 overall.
The teams wrap up the series Saturday in Lake Myrtle.
