BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Fredonia State women's basketball team dropped a 59-47 game to Geneseo in Steele Hall on Friday.
The Devils (11-12 overall/6-11 SUNYAC) were led by juniors
Becky Hebert with 13 points and
Jaimie Warren with 12. Warren added five rebounds to lead the Devils.
The game started with Geneseo's Allison McKenna scoring the game's first six points. The Devils responded with an 18-3 run to go up 18-9. Hebert and
Grace Moore (Fredonia) each had five points during the run to spark the Devils.
The Knights worked their way back into the game and cut the Devils lead to one, 22-21, at halftime.
Marissa Cussins (Corning/Corning West) led the Devils with eight points.
The Devils biggest lead of the game was 10 points, coming five minutes into the second half. Leading 24-23, the Devils scored nine straight points to go up 33-23.
Geneseo took the lead for good, 40-39, on a Shannon McGinnis layup with 7:38 left to play.
The contest was the final home game for three Blue Devil seniors -- Moore,
Jenna Austin (Cherry Creek/Pine Valley) and
Anna Riley (Massena). Moore, a Fredonia High School grad, is also the daughter of men's head basketball coach Kevin Moore.
She finished her evening with seven points, four rebounds and three assists. Austin had two points and four rebounds. Riley had two points, three rebounds and a pair of assists.
The Devils wrap up the season on Saturday at Brockport.
