BOXSCORE

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Will McLaughlin (Mountain Top, Pa.) scored twice in the second period and Mark Friesen (Calgary, Alberta) made 25 saves to post his second shutout of the season as Fredonia State blanked Potsdam, 2-0, in SUNYAC men's hockey Friday.

The win lifted the Blue Devils to 4-7-1 in the SUNYAC and 6-13-2 overall. Potsdam fell to 3-8-0 in the conference.

McLaughlin, a senior forward, scored his second and third goals of the season six minutes apart.

His first came on a breakaway 21 seconds into the period. Chris Jung (Sandy, Utah) and Mat Hehr (Sherwood Park, Alberta) earned assists.

McLaughlin's second goal was the result of a near-breakaway at 6:38 after he picked up the puck along the far boards and skated up the right side to take a wide-angled shot on net.

He had several chances to complete the hat trick in each of the last two periods, including a shot at an empty net in the final seconds.

The two goals were the 10th and 11th of his collegiate career. He was appearing in his 77th game.

Friesen was steady in net while lowering his goals-against average to 3.00. It was his fifth career shutout.

Potdam goaltender Jon Hall made 19 saves.

The Blue Devils are back at home Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Plattsburgh Cardinals, ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division III by USCHO.com.
