BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Becky Hebert (Hilton) turned in the 12th 30-point game in Blue Devil history as Fredonia State knocked off last year's SUNYAC regular-season champion New Paltz Hawks, 85-61, in Steele Hall.
The Devils, now 5-1 and 1-0 in the SUNYAC, received 30 points, eight rebounds and four assists from Hebert as she shot 13 of 19 from the field.
Jaimie Warren (Lakeview/Frontier) contributed a double-double with 21 points and 13 boards.
Brittany LaForce (Weedsport) and
Kathryn Halloran (Angola/Immaculata) added 10 apiece, with Halloran adding seven rebounds. Freshman
Alexis Cheatham (Lockport) had nine points and seven assists.
New Paltz was paced by 22 from Kit Small and 12 from Goldie Harrison.
The Devils built a 13-point lead midway through the first half, leading 23-10 with 11:24 to play. The Hawks would whittle away and pull to within three, 29-26, before the Devils scored the final four points of the period, leading 33-26 at the break.
The second half was all Fredonia State as they outscored the Hawks 52-35 in the frame.
For the game, the Devils shot a sizzling 58 percent (32 of 55) compared to New Paltz' 34 percent. The Devils held a 45-31 advantage on the boards. Fredonia State also dished our 20 assists compared to just five for New Paltz.
New Paltz falls to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
The Devils play host to Oneonta on Saturday at 2 p.m.
