BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State swimmers closed out their first semester Saturday at Canisius College.

The Blue Devil men were defeated 175-116, while the women lost 173-110. The host Griffins are an NCAA Division I team.

After gaining an insurmountable lead, Canisius swimmers declared they were entering the remaining events as exhibitions. That resulted in several Blue Devils earning wins, although not by virture of swimming the fastest time in those events.

Prior to that point, Fredonia State had four second-place individuals.

On the women's side, senior Larissa Dobson (Hamburg) was second in two events -- the 50-yard breast stroke (:33.16) and the 100-yard breast stroke (1:12.92). In addition, junior Stephanie Rosa (Phillipsburg, N.J.) was second in the 100-yard backstroke, while Rosa, Dobson, sophomore Jami Barber (Hamlin), and sophomore Sam Rokos (Delanson) combined to finish second in the 400-yard medley relay.

On the men's side, senior Eric Jordan (Lancaster) was second in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 26.43 seconds. Also earning second-place points were the 400-yard freestyle quartet of senior John Estanislau (East Longmeadow, Mass.), senior Dave Adamczak (Akron), sophomore Liam Jones (Buffalo), and senior Adrian Van Hall (Owego).

The diving competition was held Friday night and the points were added to the team totals at the completition of Saturday's swimming.

The Blue Devils break for the holidays and return after the first of the year. Their next competition is Jan. 11 when their host two other schools, Ithaca and Nazareth, at the Steele Hall Natatorium.
