BOXSCORE ADRIAN, Mich. – One bad spell was too much for Fredonia State to overcome Saturday against the Adrian Bulldogs.
The Blue Devils (2-5-1) allowed three goals is less than three minutes early in the second period. They eventually fell to the No. 5 ranked and unbeaten Bulldogs, 7-2.
John DeFeo (Glen Head, N.Y.) and
Stephen Castriota (Bellport, N.Y.) scored power-play goals for Fredonia State. The Blue Devils were outshot, 40-22..
Christopher Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass.) was credited with 33 saves. Adrian's James Hamby made 20 stops.
Adrian improved to 8-0 with a balanced offense in which seven different players had one goal each.
Each team had a power-play goal in the first period. Adrian's Shelby Gray opened the scoring with a slap shot from the right circle at 10:57. The Blue Devils countered with 11 seconds left in the period as DeFeo scored during a scramble after Hamby made the initial stop of a slapshot from the right point.
Jared Wynia (Calgary, Alberta) and Castriota assisted.
Adrian took control on goals by Jake Fiegel, John Ranalli, and Brent Sauer in a span of 2:42 of the second period before Castriota scored his fourth goal of the season at 16:46.
Zach White (Taberg, N.Y.) and
Ryan Wilkinson (Calgary, Alberta) picked up assists.
Brent Pinkerton, Duston Hebebrand and Austin Hervey added third-period goals for Adrian.
The Blue Devils are back in action 3:30 p.m. Sunday against USA Hockey's Under-18 National Development Team at Ann Arbor, Mich.
