BOXSCORE ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team led at the half, but could not hold on, falling at Elmira College, 79-65, on Sunday. The Soaring Eagles went on a 16-0 run late in the half to take control of the game.
Senior
Tyrone Clark (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy), an Elmira native, scored 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had four steals to lead the Devils.
John Kovach (Shoreham/Shoreham Wading River) added 14 and senior
Ray Parris (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banaker) chipped in 11.
Clark had 18 points in the first half as the Devils built a 38-34 lead. The Devils' biggest lead of nine points, 38-29, came with two minutes left in the first. Elmira closed the half with a layup and a three pointer to close the gap to four.
The Devils led just past the midway point of the second stanza. Clark connected on a free throw to put the Devils up one, 54-53, with 8:39 on the clock.
Elmira would take control from there, going on the 16-0 run to take a 69-54 lead with 4:13 remaining. Kovach had eight points in the second half to lead the Devils.
Neil Randolph led Elmira, who improves to 2-3, with 27 points. He was one of four players to score in double-digits.
The Devils drop to 1-3. They travel to D'Youville College on Tuesday as part of a men's/women's doubleheader.
