Devils' home debut a winner

BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team had a successful 82-55 victory in its home opener vs. the Hilbert Hawks. Becky Hebert (Hilton), Sabrina Macaulay (Newark) and Jaimie Warren (Lakeview/Frontier) led a balanced attack as the Devils improved to 3-1 on the season.

Hebert netted 28 points on nine of 15 shooting from the field, including four of five three-pointers. She also had four assists and three steals.

Macaulay had 12 points and three assists. She connected on five of eight shots from the floor.

Warren added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds, hitting on five of nine shots. Freshman Alexis Cheatham (Lockport) came off the bench to dish out five assists and had eight points. Brittany LaForce (Weedsport) also had eight points.

The Devils led by as many as 20 in the first half. In the frame, they shot 53 percent (16 of 30) from the floor, compared to 33 percent (9 of 27) by the Hawks. They held a 38-23 lead at the break.

For the game, Hilbert held an edge in rebounds, 44-37, but Fredonia State had a decided advantage in steals (14-6) and assists (21-5). The Devils also forced 25 turnovers.

Hilbert fell to 1-3 overall. Twelve different players scored, led by Kenya Williams and Kylie Reinholz with eight points apiece.

The Devils travel to D'Youville on Tuesday for men's/women's doubleheader.
