Niall Curran scored twice Saturday

Men's soccer defeats Buffalo State

BOXSCORE BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Fredonia State men's soccer team recorded its first SUNYAC win of the season Saturday afternoon by defeating Buffalo State, 4-2.

Niall Curran (Yonkers) scored twice in the first period to help power the Blue Devils (4-7, 1-2) over the Bengals (3-6-1, 0-3). 

Chase Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station) and Sam Greco (Lockport) had one goal each.

A.J. Grecco (Buffalo) made three saves in the Fredonia State goal.

Curran's first goal came off a header on a throw-in by Dylan Duncan (Lewiston) nine minutes into play. Curran struck again five minutes later when he connected for his third goal of the season after a scramble in front of goal.

The Blue Devils made it 3-0 before halftime when Lipshie connected on a header off a direct kick from Mike Biggane (Amherst) in the 35th minute.

Fredonia State outshot Buffalo State 7-5 in the first half.

The Bengals scored in the 59th minute when Dylan Ross connected for his second goal of the season.

Greco scored his first collegiate goal off pass from Luke Tylutki (Pittsford) in the 87th minute. 

Buffalo State's Ivan Vulin completed the scoring with 1:50 left.

Fredonia State continues SUNYAC play Friday when it plays host to Cortland at 4 p.m. at University Stadium.
