BOXSCORE 2 FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's volleyball team defeated Hilbert College, 3-0, in its home opener, then swept three sets in knocking off Westminster in the nightcap.
Against Westminster, the Devils took the first match 26-24. They won the final two sets by identical 25-20 scores. Freshman
Sara Madison (Rochester/Penfield) spiked home the game winner, giving the Devils the victory over a team that won the Invite last year, and entered the game with a 16-4 record.
Hannah Manning (Appalachin/Owego) had nine kills to lead the Devils. Madison had eight kills and
Jessica DiChristopher (Cheektowaga/West Seneca East) had seven. Manning added three service aces to her offensive output.
Kelly Edinger (Rochester/Greece Athena) had 23 assists. Defensively, Edinger had 13 digs and
Lauren Hokaj (Lancaster/St. Mary's) had 16. DiChristopher added four blocks.
Versus Hilbert, the Blue Devils won 25-22, 25-12 and 25-19.
Manning and Orcutt had eight kills apiece.
Brittney Kelly (North Tonawanda/Niagara Wheatfield) had three service aces. Six different players had four or more digs and DiChristopher had three blocks.
In other action, LaRoche defeated Hilbert, 3-0; Westminster defeated R.I.T., 3-0; and R.I.T. downed LaRoche, 3-1.
The Invitational continues Saturday when the Devils take on LaRoche at 11 a.m. and R.I.T. at 3 p.m.
