Freshman earns three points in 5-2 loss at Oneonta

BOXSCORE ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Freshman forward Alexis Moreland (Newfane) had a goal and an assist in Fredonia State's 5-2 women's soccer loss Saturday to the Oneonta Red Dragons.

Moreland dribbled down the center of the field and connected with her fifth goal of the season to cut the Oneonta lead to 4-1 in the 60th minute. Her assist -- a header to sophomore defender Sarah Lindovski (Baldwinsville), followed by a header and goal by Lindovski -- completed the scoring in the 85th minute. It was Lindovski's first goal in 29 games over two seasons.

Karly DeSimone led Oneonta with two goals and two assists while Shana Ventresca, Elise Moinzadeh, and Liz Lasota had one goal each. Red Dragon goalkeeper Kelley Murphy made eight saves.

The Fredonia State goalkeeping duties were split between freshman Hananh McGlinchey (Babylon), three goals allowed and five saves in the first half; and senior Shannon Letina (Clarence), two goals allowed and two saves in the second half.

The Blue Devils dropped to 2-6-1 in the SUNYAC and 4-11-2 overall heading into the final game of the season 4 p.m. Tuesday at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Oneonta improved to 6-0-3 in the conference, 9-4-3 overall.
