Estanislau sharp as men win opening meet

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- John Estanislau (East longmeadow, Mass.) was a triple winner as the Fredonia State men's swimming and diving team downed Division II Edinboro University, 139-94, in the season-opening meet on Saturday. It was the first time the men's team defeated Edinboro.

Estanislau won the 50- and 100-yard freestyles and was a part of the 400-yard medley relay team that touched first. In the 50 free, he turned in a time of 21.85 seconds, and finished the 100 free in 48.33.

Joining Estanislau on the relay team was Eric Jordan (Lancaster), Liam Jones (Buffalo/Kenmore East) and Adam Clouthier (Fairport), timing in at 3:39.68.

Jordan was a double winner, taking the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:06.13. Andrew Case (Clarence Center/Clarence) won the 200-yard IM in 2:04.51.

Diver Rafael Santiago (Middletown) took both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Off the 3-meter, he turned in a score of 235.04, outpointing runner up Joshua Croft (Corning/Corning East) by just under six points. Off the 1-meter, Santiago's 255.30 bested teammate Arron Carlson (LeRoy/Notre Dame), who turned in a score of 238.34.

The Devils are off until Nov. 9th, when they play host to Geneseo in the Steele Hall Natatorium.
