BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State fell to Oneonta, 3-1, in SUNYAC men's soccer Saturday at University Stadium.

Jakob Persons (Albany) scored the lone Blue Devil goal in his final home game. He and six senior teammates were recognized during a pre-game ceremony. The Blue Devils, 5-11-1 overall, closed out their conference season at 2-6-1 and out of the SUNYAC playoff picture. They visit Hobart on Tuesday in the final game of the 2013 season.

Alex Winiarski had a goal and an assist for Oneonta, winners of the SUNYAC regular-season crown and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The Red Dragons improved to 7-0-2 in the conference and 11-3-4 overall.

Oneonta wasted little time gaining the upper hand as Winiarski connected for his third goal of the season in the fifth minute, assisted by Dylan Williams. Fredonia State drew even on the goal by Persons just over one minute later. The senior defender scored for the second time this season when he took advantage of an Oneonta defensive miscue to get a one-v-one opportunity on Oneonta goalkeeper Daniel DeBottis. It was the Blue Devils' only shot on goal in the game.

The wind advantage shifted to the Red Dragons in the second half, and they made good on it. Zachary Southworth converted a corner kick from Winiarski in the 55th minute. The eventual game-winner was Southworth's second goal of the season. An insurance goal by Hans Purtell in the 80th minute closed out the scoring. It was Purtell's second goal of the season. Luke Halberg assisted.

The Red Dragons had a 13-7 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

During the pre-game ceremony, head coach P.J. Gondek introduced and listed the accomplishments of the seven seniors. In addition to Persons, the seniors recognized were Josh Best (Farmington), Jay Dry (Lockport), Chase Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station), Joe Pagano (South Wales), Dino Salkic (Penfield), and Luke Tyllutki (Pittsford).
