GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State volleyball team, winners of eight straight matches heading into this weekend, added another pair of wins in SUNYAC Pool Play at Geneseo on Friday.
With their 10-match win streak, the Devils upped their record to 20-8 and 6-2 in the conference after defeating both Plattsburgh and Geneseo by identical 3-1 scores.
The win marked the 11th time in 15 years under head coach
Geoff Braun that the team has reached the 20-win plateau.
In the first match of the evening, the Devils and Cardinals split the first two sets, the Devils winning 26-24 and Plattsburgh taking the second set, 25-23.
Fredonia State closed out the final two sets with 25-18 and 25-23 victories.
Sara Madison and
Jessica DiChristopher had 13 kills apiece.
Kaitlin Orcutt added 11 kills and
Paulina Rein had 10.
Kelly Edinger had 40 assists and Rein added seven helpers.
DiChristopher had four blocks and
Lauren Hokaj added 21 digs.
Against host Geneseo, the Devils won by set scores of 25-19, 20-25, 25-19 and 25-17.
A trio of Blue Devils registered nine kills -- DiChristopher, Madison and Orcutt. Edinger had 35 assists and
Hannah Manning had three service aces. Defensively, Edinger had 18 digs and Hokaj added nine, while Manning had five blocks.
The Devils wrap up Pool Play Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. match vs. Oneonta. They have clinched a berth in the SUNYAC Tournament and currently sit in third place. New Paltz is in first at 7-0, followed by Buffalo State at 6-1.
