BOXSCORE NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's loss Friday ended its bid to qualify for the six-team SUNYAC Tournament field.
The Blue Devils fell 2-0 to the New Paltz Hawks to fall four points behind sixth-place Geneseo with just one conference game remaining.
The Hawks scored one goal in each half and outshot the Blue Devils, 22-6.
Sarah Painter scored in the 34th minute and Rebecca Rothman in the 66th minute to account for the scoring.
Painter's goal was the result of a play up the right side, followed by a cross to the center of the field by Kaite Mulry, and a shot from the top of the box. Rothman scored off a free kick dead center over the head of Blue Devil freshman goalkeeper
Hannah McGlinchey (Babylon).
New Paltz goalkeeper Krysten Kane made two saves to earn the shutout, while McGlinchey was credited with seven saves.
Kristie Kleine (Cazenovia) took two shots while
Kailee Juzdowski (Lancaster) and
Nicole Pannullo (Clarence) each had a shot on goal for the Blue Devils. All three are freshmen.
The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 4-10-2 overall and 2-5-1 SUNYAC. They close out the conference portion of their season 1 p.m. Saturday at Oneonta.
