BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's tennis team lost a heartbreaker, 5-4, to Plattsburgh in the Consolation Round of the SUNYAC Championships on Saturday.

With the score tied 4-all and all but one match completed, it came down to the No. 5 singles between Fredonia State's Stephanie Thompson (Verona/VVS) and Plattsburgh's Jacqueline Ciriello.

Ciriello won the first set 7-5. Thompson bounced back to claim the second set, 6-2. The final set resulted in Ciriello winning 6-4.

The Devils spilt the six singles matches with the Cardinals, while Plattsburgh claimed two of three doubles.

No. 3 singles Miller Barmasse (Lockport) defeated Meghan Ryan handily, 6-1, 6-2. No. 4 Molly Zanetti (Saratoga Springs) downed Sarah Drexinger 6-0, 6-4.

No.6 singles, Emily Fulkerson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse) defeated Ally Demeter 6-2, 6-3. Fulkerson was a late-minute fill in for Samantha Pedneault, who was unable to compete.

Barmasse and Zanetti claimed the No. 2 doubles.

The Devils finish the season with an overall record of 8-5.
