BOXSCORE CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Fredonia State women's soccer team lost to Cortland, 2-0, in SUNYAC competition Friday afternoon.
Amanda Margolis connected on her third goal of the season five minutes into the first period for the Red Dragons (6-3-4 overall, 4-0-2 SUNYAC). The score proved to be the game-winner.
The Blue Devils (2-7-2 overall, 0-3-1 SUNYAC) did not allow another score until the 72nd minute when Jessica McFadden one-timed a pass from teammate Rachel Parker.
Jenna Smolinski (Hamburg) and
Jordyn Ruston (Walworth) each had two shots to lead the Blue Devils. Fredonia State was outshot 16-6 on the day.
Fredonia State had an excellent chance to tie the game in the 55th minute. After a corner kick was served into the box, junior Maggie Horan (Livonia) registered a shot on a loose ball in the box, but Cortland goalkeeper Rachel Axt made a diving save at the left post and deflected the ball over the end line to keep the Blue Devils off the scoreboard.Â

The Blue Devils continue SUNYAC play tomorrow afternoon at Oswego.
