BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Fredonia State men's soccer team lost in overtime to SUNYAC opponent Cortland, 1-0, Friday evening at University Stadium. The loss drops the Devils to 1-3-0 in conference play, with all three losses coming in overtime.
Cortland's Bryan Merlos sent a through ball past defenders to connect with Robby Reiser for the game winner a minute into the first period of overtime. The win puts Cortland at 4-1 in the SUNYAC, and 7-5 overall.
Despite the loss Fredonia State outshot Cortland 16-15.
Luke Tylutki (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) led the Blue Devil offense with six shots.
A.J. Grecco (Buffalo/St. Joe's) finished with four saves.
Cortland represented the best chance to score in regulation when Chris McBride broke away from defenders only to be stopped by a diving Grecco with seven minutes left in play.
The Blue Devils, 4-8 overall, return to SUNYAC action tomorrow afternoon when they host Oswego. Play is set to begin at 1 p.m.
The Alumni Game is scheduled to be played tomorrow at 9 a.m. at University Stadium as Homecoming Weekend continues.
