BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Kristie Kleine (Cazenovia) had two goals and one assist to lead Fredonia State to a 5-0 win over the Elmira Soaring Eagles in non-conference women's soccer.
Kleine, a freshman midfielder, did her scoring in the first 34 minutes of the first half, which ended with the Blue Devils up 4-0.
Senior forward
Kristi Putzig (Williamsville) had a goal and an assist while two other freshmen,
Alexis Moreland (Newfane) and
Jordyn Ruston (Walworth), each had a goal for the Blue Devils, who improved to 2-5-2.
Freshman goalkeeper
Hannah McGlinchey (Babylon) made two saves. It was her first collegiate shutout.
The Blue Devils are back at home Saturday at 1 p.m. when they play host to Buffalo State in a SUNYAC game.
Kleine scored in the fifth minute on a breakaway. After receiving a long lead pass just beyond the center stripe, she sidestepped one defender and outran another. She dribbled in alone and beat the Elmira goalkeeper with a low hard shot. It was her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Moreland made it 2-0 with her second goal of the season in the 13th minute.
Zanna Barth (Amherst) started the play with a nifty through ball to Moreland, who one-touched a pass to Kleine on the right wing. Moreland proceeded to the opposite post, where she one-timed a cross from Kleine.
Kleine's second goal, her fifth of the season, came with 16:25 left in first half. She received a short pass from Moreland, ran upfield with two defenders in her path, then stopped and cut to the middle apparently looking for a trailing teammate. When none arrived, Kleine switched to her left foot and fired a low shot into the right corner of the net.
She was subbed out shortly thereafter.
Ruston recorded her first collegiate points with a goal with 5:11 left in the first half to make it 4-0. She settled a pass from Putzig and belted a shot from just inside the 18-yard box.
Putzig scored the only goal of the second half with a hard strike from 35 yards away in the 77th minute. It was her first goal of the year.
Elmira had two apparent goals negated by offside calls in the first half. Kleine also  lost an apparent goal on an offside call.
