BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team made it a weekend sweep of the North Country teams with dominating second-half play on Saturday, downing Plattsburgh, 59-50.
The Blue Devils defeated Potsdam a day earlier.
Fredonia State (5-6 SUNYAC, 10-7 overall) was led by junior forward
Jaimie Warren (Lake View/Frontier), who recorded her third double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds. She also led the Devils with four assists and four steals.
Junior guard
Becky Hebert (Hilton) added 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. The duo combined to go 14 of 16 from the free-throw line.
Plattsburgh (5-6, 9-9) was led by Kathleen Payne's 13 points. Payne also scored her 1,000th career point 2:17 into the second half on a layup.
The teams played an even first half, never separated by more than five points. Plattsburgh led or was tied most of the half -- there were six ties -- before a free throw by Hebert gave the Devils their first lead of the game, 20-19, with 5:38 to play.
A layup by Warren put the Devils up by five, 24-19, and capped a 7-0 run. Plattsburgh scored the final six points of the half to take a 25-24 lead into the locker room.
With the score tied 31-all midway through the second half, the Devils put together a 12-0 run to take a 43-31 lead. Hebert and Warren had five points apiece over the run which was capped by
Anna Riley (Massena), with a layup at 9:35.
The Devils are back in Steele Hall next weekend when they play host to Cortland and Oswego.
