GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team nailed a season-high 11 three pointers, shooting a sizzling 73 percent (11 of 14) from long range, but could not hold back Geneseo, dropping a 77-64 decision to the Knights on Tuesday.
Eight different Devils accounted for at least one three-pointer.
The Devils (5-10, 1-8 SUNYAC) were led by junior
Tyrone Clark (Elmira/Elmira Free) with 16 points, four assists, and five steals. Senior
Dalton Kashmer (South Dayton/Pine Valley) added nine points and senior
Amir Billups (Buffalo/Starpoint) added nine points and a team-high six rebounds.
Geneseo (12-5, 8-2) was led by Connor Fedge with 16 points.
Geneseo built a 40-27 lead at the half thanks to some hot shooting, converting 67 percent (14 of 21) of its shots. The Devils shot 35 percent for the half, but did hit on 5 of 7 (71 percent) three-pointers early on.
Geneseo scored the first points of the second half before the Devils gained some momentum with seven consecutive points to cut the lead to eight, 42-34.
Later in the half, the Devils closed to within five points. With 12:30 left to play,
Zack Edwards nailed a three to make it a 55-50 game. From there, Geneseo scored nine consecutive points.
For the game, the Devils shot 45 percent from the field. Geneseo hit on 57 percent of its shots. Geneseo only converted on 3 of 8 long-range attempts compared Fredonia State's 11.
The men take on Potsdam and Plattsburgh in Steele Hall this Friday and Saturday. Game times are 8 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday.
